Unique to Varanasi are tiny wooden gods, goddesses,
birds and animals that come in sets. They were
originally carved to be sold to pilgrims. The tiny birds
and animals are carved by slicing profiles from a single
wooden piece. The craftsmen originally carved ivory
at the royal court but this generation has now
switched to wood and stone.
