Mojari are the traditional leather footwear worn
mostly by the farmers of Rajasthan and Gujurat.
The three piece last consists of a soft leather upper
and a sole constructed from many layers of leather
that are stitched together. The thick sole insulates
the wearer from the extremes of the desert climate
and protects from the rough regional terrain of sand
dunes and thorny pathways. The men perform the
ornamental punching and studding and the women
undertake the embroidery directly onto the shoes.
Traditionally there is no distinction between the left
and right foot.
